A Perry man was arrested Tuesday morning when he tried to enter the Dallas County Courthouse with a handgun and drugs.
Shawn Daniel Dillinger, 45, was arrested on charges of carrying weapons, second-offense possession of a controlled substance-marijuana, possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A spokesperson for the Dallas County Sheriff’s office said Dillinger attempted to enter the courthouse while carrying a backpack, in which deputies on the courthouse security detail found a loaded 9 mm pistol, drugs and drug paraphernalia.
Dillinger is being held in the Dallas County Jail awaiting an initial appearance, scheduled for July 3 at 9 a.m. before a Dallas County Magistrate.
Carrying weapons and possession of a controlled substance are aggravated misdemeanors, and each carries a maximum penalty of up to two years in prison and a fine of up to $6,250. Possession of drug paraphernalia is a simple misdemeanor and carries a maximum penalty of up to 30 days in jail and a fine of up to $625.
Dillinger was arrested by officers of the Perry Police Department on similar charges in January 2017 and later convicted of carrying a weapon and first-offense possession of a controlled substance-marijuana.
*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
The redneckery makes this so much more fun to read than the Tucson News. Keep it coming.
