The Perry Police Department returned to full staffing Monday with the hiring of Fort Dodge native Trevor Hickey as a patrol officer.

The 2007 graduate of Fort Dodge High School will receive 16 weeks of training at the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in Johnston prior to patrolling the Perry streets.

Hickey said he joined the Iowa Army National Guard after high school and served in Iraq in 2008 and 2009.

“Doing army stuff and helping in the community was what got me interested in police work,” Hickey said Wednesday, as he made many new acquaintances at the Perry Safety and Employee Appreciation Day, held in the Perry Public Safety Building at 908 Willis Ave.
