A West Des Moines man with active arrest warrants tried to outrun law enforcement Monday afternoon but was apprehended by officers of the Perry Police Department.
Raymond Leo Steadman Jr., 51, of 2500 Vine St., West Des Moines, was charged with eluding, second-degree criminal mischief, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to stop in assured clear distance, careless driving, reckless driving, failure to signal or rapid deceleration, driving without registration, driving while suspended, improper use of lanes, failure to obey stop and yield right of way, littering, unsafe passing and violation of financial liability coverage.
Steadman was also arrested on two Polk County warrants for parole violation.
The high-speed chase apparently began about 5:30 p.m. in Bouton and concluded about 5:45 p.m. in Perry.
The Dallas County Sheriff’s office has not released any information about the circumstances of the incident, but a motorist who was traveling on 130th Street at the time of the pursuit said she “was almost hit head on and ended up off the road.”
Steadman is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $18,610.52 bond. He is scheduled for an initial appearance Tuesday in Dallas County District Court.
