Perry Police Report Aug. 23-27

August 23, 2018

  • A caller said she was staying at a local motel, and “something happened with the pipes, and now the manager is asking them to leave.” The caller said she was “doing laundry in the tub but had not overflowed it or clogged the drain or anything,” but the “manager is refusing to give them back their money.” The caller was advised “to contact corporate to see if they could assist. If not, she may have to look at small claims.”
  • A caller said “she found a syringe in the alley” and “doesn’t want to pick it up and did not want it in her garbage.” An officer “responded and disposed of the syringe.”
  • Leigh Richard Houghton, 52, of Perry was arrested on a charge of driving while suspended.
  • A caller said a dog was running at large. An officer responded and determined the dog had a city tag. The dog was returned to its owner.
  • A caller said “her son didn’t get off the bus where he was supposed to.” It was determined the caller’s son was still on the bus.
  • A caller said she caught a dog running at large. An officer responded and transported the animal to the Perry Animal Holding Facility.
  • A “Crime Stopper caller” reported “someone smoking marijuana.” An officer responded but “did not detect the odor of marijuana.”
  • A caller “said a neighbor was using a weed eater,” and “a rock hit her windshield, cracking it.” An officer responded and advised the caller “that if she wanted the neighbors to pay for the damage to the window that she would either have to ask them or, if denied, she would have to take them to small claims court.” The caller said “she will more than likely pay for it on her own.”
  • A caller “said he is receiving harassing phone calls.” The caller called again and said “he called to try and patch things up, and she cursed him out.” An officer responded.

August 24, 2018

  • John Michael Cornelius, 33, 12644 K Drive, Perry, was arrested on a charge of first-offense OWI-drug related.
  • A caller said she arrived at work “and found a white male sleeping in their foyer.” An officer responded and made contact with the sleeper, “woke him up and told him to move on. He complied.”
  • An employee at a local retail store entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. with a billfold that was left behind by a customer of the store. An officer responded and made contact with the owner of the item, who later picked it up.
  • A caller from a local bank said someone “tried to cash a fake $100” bill. An officer responded.
  • A caller said “during the Highway 141 garage sales they had a sale,” and “on their way back, the box with the money fell out of the truck.” The caller “just wanted to know if anyone turned it in.”
  • A caller said “in the last couple of days someone entered his garage and took” several items. An officer responded.
  •  A caller said his 6-year-old son “failed to get off the bus.” The caller called again and said “his son had been located at the school playground.”

August 25, 2018

  • Eric Dee Lockwood Jr., 25, 1924 Second St., Perry, was arrested on charges of public intoxication, interference with official acts and fifth-degree theft.
  • A caller said “an urgent message” needed to be delivered to someone. An officer responded, made contact with the person sought and directed the person to make contact with the caller.
  • A caller reported “a domestic going on next door.” Officers responded and “stood by while the male half removed his belongings.”
  • A caller reported a suspicious vehicle with one occupant. An officer responded and made contact with the person in the vehicle, who said he “was bug bombing his residence” and “was just sitting in the shade, reading.”
  • Officers of the Perry Police Department “conducted a foot patrol of the rally at the Josh Davis Plaza.”
  • A caller said two people “were upstairs having a fist fight.” Officers responded and determined ” a verbal argument over an accusation of theft of $20″ occurred. “Both parties agreed to remain peaceful with each other.”
  • Jonathan Bonilla-Medina, 24, 307 Sugar Creek Circle, Perry, was arrested on a charge of driving while suspended.
  • Kiflemariam Fisse Tesfamariam, 48, 1035 22nd St., #3, Des Moines, was arrested on a charge of driving while suspended.
  • A caller said “his mother was walking” and “refusing to get in his vehicle.” An officer responded.
  • A caller said “his ex-wife left town, leaving their 6-year-old child home alone.” An officer responded and determined “that the child that was suspected of being home alone was actually 16 years old.” The officer informed the caller “that a 16-year-old can take care of herself.”
  • A caller said she caught a dog running at large. An officer responded and transported the animal to the Perry Animal Holding Facility.
  • A caller said his friend was drinking in a nearby town and would be driving to Perry. An officer was advised.
  • A caller said he heard “a little girl screaming, ‘I don’t want to go!’ and then they drove off.” An officer responded, patrolled the area and spoke with neighbors, who said they “did not hear or see anything matching that description.”

August 26, 2018

  • A caller said “there was a white male wearing a hat that had walked in his house and was nude.” Officers responded, located a juvenile male and took him to his home.
  • Henry Rodrigo Soriano-Alvarenga, 23, 2506 Perry Park Ave., #D, Perry, was arrested on charges of driving while suspended and second-offense OWI.
  • A caller said two men “have been drinking in the alley.” The caller said the men “pulled up a couple of chairs and have been playing loud music.” An officer responded, made contact with the men and “advised they were no longer wanted at” the location,” and “they agreed to leave.”
  • A caller said “while mowing, her husband found several needles in the alley behind their residence.” An officer responded “and disposed of them.”
  • Someone entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. with a cell phone that was found. The item was later claimed by its owner.
  • Benito Ortiz Jr., 28, 1215 18th St., #7, Perry, was arrested on a charge of driving while suspended.
  • A caller reported “cattle on the roadway on County Road P48 between Dawson and the boat ramp.” The Dallas County Sheriff’s office was notified.

August 27, 2018

  • A caller said her dog was lost.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
