  • The Perry Parks and Recreation Department reported vandalism to the men’s restroom in Wiese Park. An officer responded and found “all three windows in the men’s restroom had been broken out with riocks thrown through them. Two screens had been broken out, and the inside of the bathroom had toilet paper thrown everywhere.” Damage was estimated at $500.
  • Six callers reported a man “lying near a guard rail by the first bridge out of Perry.” The Greene County Sheriff’s office was notified, and they said they “dropped” a man “near there, and they have contacted the Dallas and Boone County Sheriff’s offices to attempot to help him get closer to Des Moines.” The Greene County Sheriff’s office said “he was walking there” and “was okay when they last saw him.”
  • A caller from a local restaurant said someone was “harassing her for cigarettes.” Officers responded and made contact with a man who said “he is from Texas and is exploring Iowa.” The man said “he is trying to reach Des Moines,” but he “refused a ride from the officers,” who advised him “not to ask people for rides or for cigarettes.”
  • A caller said a dog was running at large. Officers responded and transported the animal to the Perry Animal Holding Facility.
  • A caller said a dog was running at large. Officers responded but did not find the dog.
  • A caller asked “to speak with an officer about his wife trying to steal his car.” An officer responded and explained “that since they are married, it is shared property, and his wife could borrow the car.”
  • A caller from the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines said a woman “left the hospital with the IV still in her arm” and “did not wait for discharge instructions.” The caller said the woman said “that her boyfriend works at Casey’s at 4 p.m.” and “perhaps is the reason they left in a rush.” The caller requested a welfare check on the woman at an address in Perry. An officer responded and found no one home.
  • A caller said a dog was running at large. An officer responded and transported the animal to the Perry Animal Holding Facility.
  • A caller reported “an open door on a vacant house.” An officer responded, “checked the residence” and “all appeared to be okay.”
  • A caller said two dogs were running at large. An officer responded and returned one of the dogs to its fenced yard but “was not able to catch a Yorkie that took off running.”
  • A caller reported “a bike that’s been laying on the parking in front of her residence for several days.” An officer responded and took possession of the abandoned bicycle.
  • A woman entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. “with her mother” and “said she is receiving harassing text messages and phone calls from an ex-friend.” An officer responded, made contact with the harasser and told her to cease communications with the woman with her mother or the harasser “would be charged with harassment.” The woman with her mother “was advised of the same” by the officer.
  • A patrolling officer of the Perry Police Department found an abandoned bicycle, and the bicycle was “transported to the bike shed.”
  • A hangup 911 call was received. It was “followed by a call from a female, screaming into the phone that she needed an ambulance for her son,” who “was hit in the head.” Officers responded, and the Dallas County EMS were paged.
  • A woman entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. and said she received a phone call from someone who said “she was going to be sued.” She said she also “was told immigration was going to get involved.” An officer responded.
  • A caller said a cat was running at large. An officer responded and transported the animal to the Perry Animal Holding Facility.
  • A man entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. with a cat found running at large. An officer responded and found the cat was wearing a city tag.
  • A caller said “someone stole a surveillance camera from the apartment building.” The caller said he had “footage of the person who committed the theft” and was “on his way to the Perry Police Department.”
  • A caller reported “a theft that occurred in a homeless shelter in Des Moines.” The “caller was given the Des Moines Police Department phone number.”
  • A caller said she “noticed the garage light on and a wondow open” in a residence that “should be vacant.” An officer responded and determined the “residence was secure.”

August 24, 2017

  • A caller said her vehicle “has been broken into,” and “there are several items that are missing.” Officers responded.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
