Perry Police Report Feb. 22

  • A patrolling officer of the Perry Police Department found a broken window in a vacant commercial property in the downtown area. Investigation revealed “the damage appeared old. All appeared okay.”
  • A caller said “his car would not open” because the “doors were frozen.” The caller “managed to get the door open.”
  • A caller said his dog was lost. The caller called again and said his dog was found.
  • A caller said “someone broke a window to her vehicle, which was parked at the parking lot across the street.” An officer responded and determined “the vehicle had been shot by at least three BBs on the rear tailgate and window. The window was completely shattered out.”
  • Douglas Esau Vargas-Orellana, 23, 610 North St., Perry, was arrested on a charge of first-offense OWI.
  • Lee John Wiggins, 51, 236 N. 44th St., Cumming, was arrested on a Dallas County warrant on an original charge of third-degree harassment.
  • A woman and her mother entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. with “a check issued from Boys and Girls Club Inc. in the amount of $2,950” and said someone “is currently selling a car,” and “this company advised them to cash the check and send them some back.” An officer responded.
  • A caller said “her son lives in an apartment in Ames where a tenant smokes marijuana.” The caller “wants to know what can be done about that.” An officer responded and “advised her of her options.”
  • A caller asked to speak with an officer “about guns that were given to him.” The caller “wanted to know if there is a procedure on how to transfer the guns to his name.” An officer responded.
  • A caller from California said he owns rental property in Perry, and “the male who lives there has not paid rent for three months.” The caller said he “wants to know what he can do.” An officer responded and “advised him to get a lawyer.”
  • A caller said “he got home” and “noticed a bullet hole through his back passenger side window of his vehicle and the side window to his house.” The caller said he “wasn’t sure what to do, which is why he didn’t report it sooner.” An officer responded and determined “two vehicles were shot with a BB gun, and a window of the house was also shot.”
  • A caller said he knew “a potential location for where the vehicle in the drive-by BB gun shootings may be.” An officer responded to the location but did not find the vehicle.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
