January 25, 2017

  • The Perry Police Department School Resource Officer “talked to four fifth-grade boys of ‘corndogging’ and what the possible consequences could be.”
  • A man entered the offices of the Perry Police Department offices at 908 Willis Ave. and said “he keeps receiving phone calls” from Silver City, Iowa. An officer responded and determined “it was a scam.”
  • A caller said “her building was broken into two days ago.” She reported “a lot of items missing.” An officer responded.
  • A caller said “his bike was stolen the night he was arrested.” An officer responded and found the caller’s bicycle where it had been left.
  • A 15-year-old boy from Perry was arrested on a charge of fourth-degree theft.
  • A caller said she hired an automotive mechanic and now feels “he overcharged her on parts.” She said the mechanic “is now refusing to give her the vehicle until she pays him $300.” An officer responded and “advised the caller to take the matter to civil court.”

January 26, 2017

  • A caller reported “a dog crying and whining.” An officer responded but did not find a whining dog.
  • A caller said “she was having trouble with” her 16-year-old son and “wanted an officer to respond.” An officer responded.
  • A caller said “there was a car at the side of the road” with “its hood up.” An officer responded but did not find the vehicle.
  • A caller said a man was “going door to door.” The caller said he “was not sure what he wanted, but he tried to enter his house, and he did not like that.” An officer responded and made contact with the man going door to door, who said he “was looking for his friend’s house on Evelyn Street but didn’t know the actual address.” The officer gave the man “a ride back to his residence.”
  • A caller said three dogs were running at large. An officer responded but did not find the dogs.
  • A woman entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. and said her dog was missing.
  • A caller from the Boone County Sheriff’s office “advised their 911 was down.”
  • A caller from Boone said he “did not have an emergency” but “wanted to report an assault for someone else.” The caller was given the phone number of the Boone County Sheriff’s office.
  • A 911 caller from Boone said “her child was assaulted while walking home from school.” The Boone County Sheriff’s office was alerted.
  • A caller from Boone “requested an officer at her residence regarding a domestic disturbance.” The Boone County Sheriff’s office was alerted.
  • A caller from Boone “requested to talk to an officer at her residence regarding a no-contact order.” The Boone County Sheriff’s office was alerted.
  • A caller from Boone reported “a vehicle that went in the ditch.” The caller said the “driver exited the vehicle and got a ride.” The Boone County Sheriff’s office was alerted.
  • A caller from Boone “wanted to report a traffic complaint on Iowa Highway 17.” The Boone County Sheriff’s office was alerted.
  • The Perry Police Department School Resource Officer “stood by during a wrestling tournament.”

January 27, 2017

  • A caller said a truck was “driving around in circles at Perkins Park.” Officers responded and found “kids had hooked a sled to the truck and were pulling it through the snow. The kids were advised they could not perform this activity in town.
  • A 911 caller from a local meatpacking plant said a man “had been cut on his arm and hand by one of the machines.” The Dallas County EMS was paged, and the injured worker was transported to Mercy Medical center in Des Moines.
  • Cesilia Melendez, 18, 1414 Fifth St., #1, Perry, was issued a citation for violation of restricted license and second-offense no insurance.

January 28, 2017

  • Erick Mendez, 34, was issued a citation for failure to stop within a safe clear distance.
  • A caller said “a man wearing a brown snow suit” was “asking people for rides and money” at a local gas station. An officer responded and learned the man “had hitchhiked to Perry but would not advise why.” The hitchhiker “decided to leave” the gas station.
  • A caller reported “a dog that’s been barking for hours.” An officer responded but did not find a barking dog.
  • A caller from the Dallas County Hospital reported a cat owner was being treated for a cat bite. An officer responded.
  • A caller said his mother-in-law “just came upstairs and starting asking him the same question over and over.” The caller said he “thought it was possibly related to hand surgery she had last week.” An officer responded, and the Dallas County EMS was paged.
  • A caller reported “a suspicious white male in the hospital wearing a black coat and hat.” An officer responded and made contact with the man, who said he “was not feeling well.”

January 29, 2017

  • Donald Leroy McChesney, 37, of no fixed address, was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and second-offense public intoxication.
  • A caller said “that someone had broken into the Bluejay Market.” Officers responded and started an investigation.
  • A caller asked for help “with her 9-year-old son, who is out of control.” An officer responded.
  • A caller “reported a stove fire.” The caller said the fire was “spreading in the kitchen now.” Officers responded, and the Perry Volunteer Fire Department was paged.
  • A caller said she “hasn’t been able to make contact with her 4-year-old son.” She said a no-contact order is in force “between her and the child’s father.” The caller said “she is supposed to have supervised visitations every other weekend, but he stopped them after she made allegations about him.” An officer responded to the residence, but no one was at home.
  • A 911 caller said “she was trying to use her mapping on her phone and somehow called 911.” The caller said she was “trying to get to a sporting activity.”
  • A caller “reported a dead opossum on the street.” The Perry Public Works Department was notified.
  • A caller said someone “took off with her car,” and the caller “wants to report it stolen.” An officer responded and determined the caller was not the registered owner of the vehicle. The officer told the caller “that because the vehicle is not under her name, she cannot report it stolen and would have to take” the person driving it “to court to dispute it.”
  • A caller said items “were stolen from her vehicle.” An officer responded.
  • Jeffery Joseph Cechovic, 34, 1923 Fifth St., Perry, was arrested on a charge of contempt of court-violation of a no-contact order.
  • A caller said he lost his keys.
  • A caller said the “carbon monoxide detector was beeping.” The Perry Volunteer Fire Department was paged.
  • A caller said her mother “was being hysterical, throwing her belongings out of the house.” The caller said she and her child had “nowhere to go.” Officers responded. The Perry Ministerial Association provided shelter for the night to the caller and her child.
  • Shawn Daniel Dillinger, 42, 2202 Evelyn St., Perry, was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and carrying weapons and issued a citation for no insurance.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
