June 29, 2018

  • A man entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. and said “he found his cat at the pound.” He also said “that the house behind him has cats that run loose,” and “one is very mean and tears up other cats in the neighborhood.” The man described the mean cat “as a very large black-and-white cat” that “is the size of a dog.”
  • Donald LeRoy McChesney II, 39, 1312 Sixth St., Perry, was arrested on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
  • A man entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. and reported “a large branch or a small tree that had fallen” on a vehicle. An officer responded.
  • A caller reported “people dumping things in his yard.” An officer responded.
  • A woman entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. and asked to speak with an officer about “her landlord giving her papers.” The woman said “her landlord told her she had five days to move out,” but “she was never served with eviction papers and was wanting to know if that was legal.” An officer responded and “informed her this was a civil matter” and advised the woman “to contact an attorney for legal advice.”
  • A caller said his wife “is intoxicated, and she took their child” from a daycare center. The caller said the wife “also has his step-daughters” with her “in the vehicle as well.” An officer responded. Later a second caller said “her husband is there, who she has a restraining order against, pounding on the door and wanted them to leave.” The officer again responded.
  • A caller said “someone used a crow bar to open her car door,” and “she just noticed it.” An officer responded.
  • A caller said a dog was running at large. An officer responded but did not find the dog.
  • A patrolling officer of the Perry Police Department “was given keys.” A caller later reported missing keys matching the description of the keys the officer was given. The caller retrieved her keys at the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave.
  • A caller said “there was a big fireworks going off south of her residence.” An officer responded and found “no one in the area.”
  • A caller said “there were people in front of their yard lighting off fireworks.” An officer responded but did not find any violators of the fireworks ordinance.
  • Nick Valiant Moore, 21, 2202 Jules St., St. Joseph, Mo., was arrested on a charge of public intoxication.
  • A caller said someone told her “that she was going to go to the police department to file harassment charges on her.” An officer responded.
  • A caller said his wife “called and told him” a stranger “was knocking on their door.” An officer responded, made contact with the wife and determined the stranger “knocked on the door,” and “no one answered the door, and he left.”

June 30, 2018

  • A caller from Grand Junction said “she followed her 17-year-old daughter” to the residence of a male in Perry, and the caller said “she does not want her at his house, considering she is a 17-year-old girl.” Officers responded and made contact with the male, who said “she was not there and offered officers to walk through the residence. After walking through the home, officers did not find anyone matching the description of the juvenile.” The caller was informed “she could file a missing-person report but declined.”
  • A caller reported two people “going through a neighbor’s garage with flashlights.” Officers responded and made contact with the flashlight bearers, who “were inside the garage, working on a lawn mower. The female was the owner of the property,” and “everything checked out.”
  • A caller said two dogs were running at large. An officer responded but “was told to disregard” the call when the owner of the dogs retrieved the dogs.
  • Officers of the Perry Police Department “conducted traffic control of a convoy of tractors going through Perry.”
  • A woman entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. and said her cat was lost.
  • A man entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. and reported a tree “that is blocking the view while attempting to exit the parking lot” of a local retail store. The Perry Compliance Office was notified.
  • A caller reported “a man riding a scooter on Iowa Highway 141” and “traveling eastbound.” An officer responded but did not find the man on the scooter.
  • A caller said “he was just chased by a pit bull.” The caller said he “doesn’t think he was bitten but was scratched.” An officer responded, and Bernadette Goodwin of 1727 First Ave., Perry, was issued a citation for fourth-offense dog at large.
  • A caller said a dog was running at large. An officer responded but did not find the dog.
  • Carlos Alberto Hernandez-Salmeron, 21, 2624 Warford St., Perry, was issued a citation for no valid driver’s license and leaving the scene of an accident.
  • A caller reported “two dogs left in an older blue vehicle.” An officer responded but did not find the dogs or the vehicle.
  • A caller reported a dispute with the owner of a local business. The caller said he is a service person, and the business owner did not want to pay him for his service. An officer responded.
  • A caller reported a barking dog. An officer responded and made contact with someone who said “he is dog sitting” and “would attempt to quiet the dog down.”
  • A caller said “her brother” was “on her front porch, refusing to leave.” Officers responded and made contact with the brother, who “was taken to the Dallas County Hospital.”
  • A caller said “a transformer was hit lightning” in Adel. The Dallas County Sheriff’s office was notified.
  • A caller said someone “has been harassing her and was currently outside of her house.” The caller said the person “has been harassing her for an extended period of time through text messages, phone calls and driving by her house, yelling profanities.” The caller said she previously reported the ongoing harassment. Officers responded.
  • A caller said she “noticed a large fan on a white SUV,” and “it looked like it fell onto the vehicle.” An officer responded.
  • A patrolling officer of the Perry Police Department encountered a fallen tree. The Perry Public Works Department was notified.
  • A caller reported a downed power line in Redfield. The Dallas County Sheriff’s office was notified.
  • A caller said “there is flash flooding occurring,” and her friends in Ankeny “need help getting out.” Dispatchers of the Perry Police Department notified the Ankeny Police Department and the Polk County Sheriff’s office.
  • A caller said someone walking past his residence was “screaming and headed south.” Officers responded.

July 1, 2018

  • Scotty Lee Hays, 27, 433 E. Philip St., #310, Des Moines, was arrested on a charge of public intoxication.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
