September 20, 2016

  • A caller said a woman was running with “a German shepherd with no leash.” He said “the dog gets in everyone’s yard,” and “he wanted something done about it.” The caller said
    “he was following her and was going to find out where she lived, and something needed to be done about this.” An officer responded and advised the caller not to follow the running woman because an officer of the Perry Police Department was en route.
  • A caller reported “a vehicle trespassing over the brownfields.” An officer responded.
  • A caller reported “a gas pump that looked like it had been cut off and smelled like gas.” An officer responded.
  • A woman entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. in order “to speak to an officer regarding knives that were found around her property.” An officer responded.
  • A man entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. and reported identity theft. An officer responded.
  • A caller said “his tenant” “moved out a week ago, leaving a dog behind.” An officer responded and learned “from a neighbor” that “the tenant had been there today to feed and water the dog. The tenant also gave her house keys to the neighbor for a friend who later came and fetched the dog.”
  • A caller said “his landlord told him where to park his bike,” and now his neighbor “just threw his bike across the yard.” An officer responded and led the caller and the neighbor to a peaceful resolution.
  • A caller said a woman “wearing an animal print blouse” was walking westward along Iowa Highway 141. An officer responded but did not find the walking woman.
  • A caller from a local retail store said “sometime today they received a fake $5 bill.” An officer responded and “picked up the fake money.”
  • A caller said he “wanted to turn himself in on an Iowa City warrant.” An officer responded and confirmed the Iowa City warrant “with a 100-mile radius pickup.” After speaking with Iowa City law enforcement officials, the officer of the Perry Police Department told the caller “Iowa City would not come this far to pick him up.”

September 21, 2016

  • Jonnie Carl Starry, 38, 820 Fifth St., Perry, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault, domestic assault, burglary, false imprisonment, obstruction of emergency communications and violation of a no-contact order.
  • A caller said he wanted “to report a complaint about something that occurred in Tyson.” An officer responded and gave the caller the phone number of the Dallas County Sheriff’s office.
  • A caller reported a vehicle “parked at the boat ramp, running, with a person inside who appears to be sleeping.” The caller “was concerned about the person’s welfare.” An officer responded and found the occupant of the vehicle “was fine, just taking a nap before work.”
  • A caller said her dog was missing.
  • A man entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. and said he lost his billfold.
  • A caller said her neighbor has dogs, and the caller “said she was concerned about the dogs’ welfare.” An officer responded and found the animals had food, water, shelter and air flow. The officer “spoke with the caller and informed her of these things.”
  • A caller said he “just caught a snake attempting to get into his residence.” He said he “has the snake in a bucket.” An officer responded, and the caller “decided eh would take care of the issue and didn’t need any further assistance.”
  • A caller said someone “drove by him” and “used his hand as a gun” and “acted like he was shooting.” An officer responded.
  • A caller said he and his wife “are in the process of getting a divorce.” He said the wife came to the house and “is causing problems and being loud,” and “he doesn’t want her to wake the children.” Officers responded.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
