September 22, 2016

  • A man entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. with a dog he caught running at large. An officer responded and transported the animal to the Perry Animal Holding Facility. The Humane Society of Perry was notified.
  • A caller said a “man was in his backyard and fell on his knees.” The caller “went to help the gentleman” and “wanted to make sure everything was all right” with the falling man. The caller “also noted that man may be a little drunk.” An officer responded, but “a home healthcare person had arrived shortly before” the officer “and will take care of the situation.”
  • A caller said “a strong odor of natural gas” was “coming fro the apartments.” Officers responded and “smelled the odor.” The owner of the rental property arrived, “and he could smell the gas as well.” The owner said he would contact the gas company.
  • A caller said “a staff member grabbed a resident by the chin and shook her head.” The caller said “there was no injury to the resident, and the staff member is on suspension.” An officer responded and “will be looking into the issue.”
  • A caller said a group of juveniles “was hollering all sorts of profanity.” The caller said she “tried talking to the kinds,” but it “didn’t do any good.” Officers responded and “spoke with the kids,” who “said they were waiting for a ride.” The officers “advised them to wait somewhere where they’re not impeding traffic and to wait in a calm manner.”
  • A caller said “someone just used her identity to make purchases.” An officer responded.
  • A woman entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. and said she was overcharged by a local restaurant for some food she bought. An officer responded.
  • A caller said “she just saw someone shining a flashlight in her backyard.” The caller said “her husband went outside” but “couldn’t find any signs of anyone being in the yard.” Officers responded.

September 23, 2016

  • A caller “called to advise he was doing a repo.” The caller “said that the owner was aware that he was repoing the vehicle.”
  • A caller said a worker “caught her hand in the mixer” and now “had her hand wrapped up in a towel to stop the bleeding.” An officer responded, and the Dallas County EMS was paged.
  • A caller said “her 12-year-old child did not want to get ready for school.” An officer responded.
  •  A man entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. in order to “speak with an officer about a stolen vehicle.” He said the vehicle “was last seen on Thursday, and he knows who took it.” An officer responded and learned someone “had taken his pickup with his permission” and “drove the pickup to Rippey to go see her son, who was living with his father.” In the course of events, the person who took the man’s pickup “ended up getting arrested by the Greene County Sheriff’s office.” When the arrested person later “got out of jail, she returned to Rippey to discover that the wheels and tires were missing off of the pickup.” She later “returned the keys.” The man said “when he located the pickup with the missing wheels, he flagged down a Greene County deputy to report the missing tires.” He said “when he returned a day or two later, the headlights, taillights and turn signals had been damaged.” The officer told the man “that any damage or theft would have to be reported to Greene County since that is where the crime occurred.”
  • A caller said she “received two phone calls from someone wanting the password to her computer. When she refused, the person used profanity toward her, hung up, then called back and used more profanity.” Officers responded and advised the caller “to go to a reputable company where they could deal with someone in person instead of over the phone.”

  • A caller said a dog was running at large. An officer responded but did not find the dog.
  • A caller said a dog was running at large. An officer responded and transported the animal to the Perry Animal Holding Facility. The Humane Society of Perry was notified.
  • A caller said a dog was running at large. An officer responded but did not find the dog.
  • A man entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. and said he found a billfold on the sidewalk. An officer responded, left a voicemail message with the owner of the billfold and logged the item into evidence. The owner later claimed the property.
  • A caller said his dog was missing. He called again and said his dog was found.
  • A man entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. and said his bicycle was stolen. An officer responded.
  • A caller said “a man had come into the store” and “wanted to cash a check for his nephew.” The clerk told the man “they only cash checks for the person the check is for.” The caller said another man then came in the store to cash the check, but he “made a comment stating he didn’t want anyone to know he was cashing it.” The caller said the store refused to cash the check.
  • A caller said “his son saw a man who used to reside” at a “vacant house two or three doors down” the street “walk up and throw something at the door, causing damage.” An officer responded.
  • A caller said her cell phone was stolen. An officer responded. The caller called again and said “the neighbor had found her phone.”
  • A caller said his “girlfriend” had “just broken up, and she moved some of her belongings out of his residence.” He said “she was very angry when she left,” and he asked whether the Perry Police Department could provide an extra patrol of his residence. Officers were advised.

September 25, 2016

  • Shane Matthew Onnen, 39, 1820 Otley Ave., Perry, was arrested on a charge of violation of probation.
  • A caller said someone “”was at her residence that she did not want there.” Officers responded.
  • A caller said a dog was running at large. Officers responded.
  • A caller said “someone attempted to break into his vehicle.” An officer responded.
  • A caller said her landlord “just served her with a 30-day notice.” The landlord “said he’s selling the property,” and the caller “wanted to know what her rights were.” An officer responded.
  • A caller said “a man and his girlfriend have been sleeping in the rafters above her apartment.” Officers responded and “did not see any way a person could get into the attic without using the actual attic entrance.”
  • A caller reported “a woman sitting on the side of Iowa Highway 141 approximately one mile west of the river.” The Dallas County Sheriff’s office was advised, and the Dallas County EMS and Perry First Responders were paged.
  • A caller from Woodward reported “an out-of-control juvenile.” The Dallas County Sheriff’s office was advised.
  • A juvenile 911 caller said “someone was chasing her dad.” The caller’s grandmother then said the caller’s father was “at the residence and delusional and saying things that are scaring his daughter.” Officers responded.
  • Michael Patrick Benton, 33, 924 Central St., Perry, was arrested on a Dallas County warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of assault on a police officer.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
