Perry schools, Tyson to be closed; Winter Storm Warning issued

A Winter Storm Warning that is in effect from midnight tonight through 6 a.m. Wednesday has forced the cancellation of all school and school activities in Perry as well as the production shift at Tyson.

All Perry public schools and St. Patrick’s Catholic School will be closed Tuesday due to the expected winter storm.

Tyson’s has announced that there will be no production shift Tuesday, with maintenance and other side departments to contact their various supervisors. In addition, the production shift will start two hours late Wednesday.

WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TUESDAY TO 6 A.M. WEDNESDAY.

Snow is expected to arrive in the Dallas County area in the early morning hours Tuesday. Moderate to heavy snow is anticipated for the Tuesday morning commute, with snow falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour in spots.

A break in the precipitation might occur over the noon hour to early afternoon, with some areas possible seeing light drizzle or light rain. Strong winds and another round of snow are expected to re-develop Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday night.

The storm will dump between 5 to 10 inches of snow. Northeast winds will turn northerly at 25-to 35 mph, with gusts in excess of 40 mph. Visibility will be reduced to a half-mile or less, with whiteout conditions likely.

Travel is not recommended during the storm and may be impossible at times. A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or are occurring. Heavy snow is forecast, making travel dangerous. Travel only in an emergency. If you must travel, keeps an extra flashlight, food, water and blankets in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
