The Perry Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 2060 earned several awards at the 97th annual state convention of the VFW Department of Iowa, convened at the Des Moines Holiday Inn.

The Perry Post won the All State award for 100 percent-plus membership, placed third in district competition for the Safety Award and took the Youth Essay Award Citation and the Buddy Poppy Award.

Posts 2060 Commander Ron Leber and Quartermaster Nathan Hoffman were among the attendees from District 5, which was awarded the All State banner. Leber was elected the Department of Iowa Chaplain following a roll call vote by all 10 districts of the state.

Leber said he hopes the Perry Post 2060 will make All American at next year’s state convention.
