The annual Fourth of July parade in Perry went off without a hitch, unless it be the latches on the many trailers and floats that helped create a procession nearly an hour in length.
The Perry-Area Chamber of Commerce-sponsored event was well attended, both is terms of the number of entrants and by the size of crowds along the route. With unseasonably cool weather kicking off 12 hours of Independence Day celebrations, many citizens headed for the numerous activities planned for Pattee Park and to the Perry Fine Arts concert and ice cream extravaganza at the First United Methodist Church.

Just wondering what it will take to get the Perry High School marching band in the parade. The drum ensemble was great, but why can’t the entire band perform? Bob Wilson, director of the Perry-Area Chamber of Commerc, said at a Wednesday fellowship meal this spring that the band would be performing. The high school bands perform at the Jefferson bell tower festival and Adel Sweetcorn Days. Why not Perry’s on the Fourth of July?
