W-G's Bryce Achenbach comes from behind to make a steal last season. W-G had 12 thefts Friday but came up just short of upsetting host DMC.

WOODWARD — Panorama hosted Woodward-Granger Dec. 20 and claimed a 55-46 win in boys West Central Conference play. Tuesday’s rematch saw the teams score half again as many points, with the Hawks earning a measure of revenge with an 87-69 victory.

W-G (8-10, 6-10) was off fast, scoring the first nine points en route to an 18-6 edge after one quarter of play. A 25-9 spurt through the ensuing eight minutes gave the hosts a 43-17 lead at the break, all but deciding the eventual outcome.

Panorama (5-14, 5-11) was playing for the first time in over three weeks with Bryce Halterman in the lineup, and his four 3-pointers in the second half limited the damage.

The teams played a nearly-even third frame, with W-G holding a 68-43 edge entering the fourth period. The Panthers continued to fight to the end, outscoring the Hawks 26-19 in the fourth quarter, although the spurt was not nearly enough to reset the game after a slow first half, leaving W-G with the 18-point win.

Halterman led all scorers with 21 points, 19 of which came after the intermission. Luke South had 14 points, Jeramy Randol 10 and Kolby Shakelford nine, with South and Shakelford each hitting two treys. Seven points from Trey Cobb, six from Gracen Welberg and two from Michael Allen capped the Panorama scoring.

The Panthers hit 13-of-22 free throws in the game, with W-G draining 15-of-20 at the stripe.

Marcus McConahay led the hosts with 20 points, with Bryce Achenbach adding 18 points and Spencer Hanson 17. Bodie Harrison and J.P. Nixon added eight points apiece, with Reese Jamison tallying seven points, Brady Aunspach five and Cameron Hoyt and Brendan Bird two apiece.

Achenbach finished with 10 assists, seven rebounds and two steals, with Jamison providing four assists and three steals while McConahay had four assists.

Panorama will visit Ogden Friday before playing a boys-only game against visiting Woodward Academy Tuesday while W-G travels to Earlham Friday and hosts AC/GC Tuesday before a boys-only contest at CMB Feb. 9.
