Good news! The pop-up produce stands that appeared last summer and fall are now available all year round. This project, led by the volunteer coalition Hunger Free Dallas County, sells fresh produce at very low prices.

These low-cost produce stands “pop up” in four Dallas County communities once a month to provide access to healthy foods in towns with no full-service grocery store.

Locations for the stands include the De Soto City Hall on the first Tuesday of each month, the Redfield City Hall on the first Wednesday, the Minburn American Legion Hall on the second Tuesday and the Dallas Center Public Library on the second Wednesday.

The stands open at 4 p.m.

As former Dallas County Board of Health member and Hunger Free Dallas County volunteer Roger Zobel said, “Having adequate and healthy food is a basic foundation to build stronger health and well-being.”

Volunteers are always welcome for this project. Tasks include loading the van, setting up the site, tearing down afterwards and assisting shoppers during the hours of sale. To volunteer, call Meredith at 515-2017-8908 or sign up online.

In addition to individual volunteers, support for the pop-up produce stands comes from the Dallas County Health Department, the United Way of Central Iowa, Eat Greater Des Moines and Waukee Area Christian Services.
