Tyson Fresh Meats plans to submit a Notice of Intent to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources to be covered under NPDES General Permit No. 2 “Storm Water Discharge Associated with Industrial Activity for Construction Activities.”

The storm water discharge will be from new building construction with associated pavements located in the SE 1/4 of Section 8, Township 81N, Range 28W, Dallas County.

Storm water will be discharged from 1 point source(s) and will be discharged to Private storm sewer to an unnamed tributary of the North Raccoon River.

Comments may be submitted to the Storm Water Discharge Coordinator, IOWA DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES, Environmental Protection Division, 502 E. Ninth Street, Des Moines, IA 50309-0034. The public may review the Notice of Intent from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the above address after it has been received by the department.

  1. Just to be certain, I must ask: This pertains only to the storm sewers and has nothing to do with the sanitary sewers and animal waste, right?

    • Also, why won’t they name the tributary? If this is nothing but storm water, why not be forthcoming with which tributary the discharge is going to.

      • To the best of our knowledge, it is not as if the tributary in question has a name but that the name is being withheld but rather that the name of the tributary is, as it were, “an unnamed tributary of the North Raccoon River,” lying within the section, township and range indicated. It is a common practice to non-name tributaries in this way. It appears that their numerousness exceeds our desire or ability to name them all.

    • “Comments,” which presumably would also include questions, “may be submitted to the Storm Water Discharge Coordinator, IOWA DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES, Environmental Protection Division, 502 E. Ninth Street, Des Moines, IA 50309-0034.”
