Randy Lee Dorman, 62, of Silver Spring, Maryland, passed away March 13, 2024, at the Adventist White Oak Medical Center in Silver Spring.

A visitation will be held Saturday, March 23 from 10-11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Perry. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, with burial after the funeral at the Fairview Cemetery in rural Perry, Iowa.

Randy was born on April 23, 1961, to Gene and Charlene Dorman of Perry, Iowa.

Randy graduated from Perry High School with the class of 1979.

While growing up, Randy was active in the Boy Scouts. He even attended the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico.

Randy enjoyed traveling. After high school he worked two years at Rocky Mountain National Park Visitor Center at the top of Trail Ridge Road near Estes Park, Colorado. He also loved the sights and history of the east coast, especially Washington, D.C.

Randy attended Des Moines Area Community College and received an associate degree in applied science in commercial horticulture.

After graduating from DMACC, he moved to Silver Spring, Maryland, and started a lifelong career in the lawn and garden industry. His knowledge and experience were invaluable to his customers and his employer. He loved what he did!

He also had a great fondness for animals, especially his cat Charlie.

Randy was preceded in death by his father, Gene Dorman.

He is survived by his mother, Charlene Dorman of Perry; brothers, Michael (Kathy) Dorman of Shawnee, Kansas and Jeff (Katie) Dorman of Independence, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials should be directed to the Boy Scouts of America or the Montgomery County Maryland Humane Society.

Randy was a kind and gentle soul who will forever be missed by friends and family.
