After several months of research — including an online survey taken by more than 800 Perry residents — the city of Perry and the Iowa State University Community and Regional Planning Studio will present  their Perry Parks and Trails Master Plan at a public open house Wednesday, Nov. 28 from 4-8 p.m. at the McCreary Community Building, 1800 Pattee St. in Perry.

The open-house format will offer information presented on display boards, with city staff and university students available to answer questions and collect feedback. A short presentation on the Parks and Trails Master Plan will be made at 5 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. in the MCB Theater.

The city of Perry and ISU community and regional planning (CRP) student developed the Parks and Trails Master Plan based on research and the online survey — available in Spanish and English fro early October through November.

Along with the survey, the CRP students conducted several community focus groups and joined a meeting of the Parks and Recreation Board Steering Committee.

The Master Plan has several chapters, including a list of existing parks and trails and a review of past and present planning initiatives. One chapter in the report assesses Perry’s present and future needs for parks and trails.

The CRP class is made up of ISU seniors working collaboratively in three groups, with one focusing on trails and green spaces, another on neighborhood parks and the third on regional parks. SVPA Architects Inc. of West Des Moines is assisting in the development of the master plan.
