Richard Jean Harbison, 85, of Columbus Junction, Iowa, passed away Oct. 29, 2016, at the University of Iowa Hospital.
Richard was a teacher, coach, farmer, marine and loving father.
He donated his body to the University of Iowa Medical School.
He could be seen at many of his grandsons’ activities in Perry.
Richard was the father of Carol VanKirk of Perry. Other survivors are his wife, Florence Harbison of Ankeny; daughter, Michele Hoffman of Vancouver, Wash.; daughter, Teresa Newman of Ankeny; grandsons, Jackson and Kade VanKirk of Perry; Eric Hoffman of Huxley; Alec Hoffman of Gilbertville, Iowa; granddaughter, Ashton (Newman) Hockman of Ankeny; and a brother, Joe Harbison of Hemet, Calif.
A memorial service will be held Dec. 10 at 11 a.m. at the Columbus Junction American Legion Auxiliary Building, 99 Second St. in Columbus Junction. A burial of ashes will be held at a later date.
