A Celebration of Life visitation will be held for Bob Siglin, 94, of Perry Sunday, April 8 from 4-6 p.m. at Murdock Funeral Home.

Bob passed away Saturday, March 31, 2018, quietly at his home in Perry with his wife, Pat, by his side.

Robert Dean Siglin was born Aug. 10, 1923, in Lily, a small town near Webster, S.D., the son of Harold J. and Mabel (McLeod) Siglin.

The family moved back to Iowa when Bob was a small child. Growing up in rural Woodward, he attended Xenia Country School and Woodward Community schools. He graduated from Woodward High School in the class of 1941.

Bob entered into active duty in the U.S. Navy March 22, 1945, and was honorably discharged Aug. 3, 1946.

Bob married Patricia Daugherty Dec. 31, 1949, at Pat’s parents home in rural Woodward. To this union four children were born.

Bob always had horses and ponies growing up on the farm. He continued his love for them throughout his life. Bob and Pat traveled to many area parades with their wagon and team of ponies.

Bob enjoyed owning various tractors over his farming years. Farmall and International Harvester were his favorites. They enjoyed participating in many tractor pulls in the 1960s.

Bob entered and won plowing contests in his younger years and also sold Lester Pfister Seed Corn.

Bob was also a seasoned welder. His projects consisted of building and repairing farm equipment, welding on stock cars for friends and making rusty horseshoe creations.

Bob and Pat lived and farmed together near Earlham for two years and southeast of Woodward near the Des Moines River. The Siglin family bought a farm north of Minburn in the fall of 1967, and Bob continued to farm until his retirement in 1988.

Bob and Pat enjoyed wintering in Florida and Arizona and moved to Queen Valley, Ariz., in 1997 to enjoy the warm, dry climate, where they made many dear friends. They returned to Perry in 2011 to be near family.

Bob was a member of the Minburn American Legion Post #99.

As his health failed, he watched and re-watched old Westerns and loved to watch a good boxing match.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia, of Perry; one son, Richard (Terri) Siglin of Creston; two daughters, Susan (John) Andrews of Perry and Sheryl Lynn (David) Weiser of Minburn; 11 grandchildren, Trent (Jenn) Andrews of Dawson, Lindsay (Brad) Waldron of Ottawa, Ill., Toni (Crystal) Andrews of Perry, Kevin Weiser of Ankeny, Janae (Ryan) Hepler of Clive, Lila (Andy) Modlin of Perry, Jesse (Gabby) Siglin of Perry, Colton Siglin of Perry, Crista Siglin of Germany, Becca Siglin of Kansas City, Mo., and Hannah Siglin of Chicago; and 16 great-grandchildren.
