Funeral services for Robert E. Flinn of Cameron, Mo., and formerly of Adel will be Wednesday, May 2 at 6 p.m. at the Poland-Thompson Funeral Home in Cameron, Mo. Burial will be Friday, July 13 at 12:30 p.m. at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa.

On July 25 , 1947, a son was born to Robert Flinn and Phyllis (Todd) Flinn in Perry, Iowa.

Rob grew up in Adel, Iowa, the youngest of four siblings.

He joined the U.S. Army in 1966 and was deployed to Vietnam in 1968. He served in Vietnam for approximately one year.

When he returned to the states, Rob served in the Iowa National Guard, being honorably discharged in 1987 as staff sergeant. During his military service, he was awarded the National Service Defense Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnamese Campaign Medal, the Air Medal, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Bronze Star and one Overseas Service Bar.

In 1986 Robert moved to Maryville, Mo. One year later, he made his home in Cameron, Mo., where he resided until shortly before his death April 23, 2018.

On April 4, 1974, he married Jacklyn Ketcham in Perry. They divorced in August 1985. The couple had three children, Shelly (Shawn) Haley of Milford, Iowa, Eric (Nichole) Flinn of Churdan, Iowa, and Angie (Dan Hoffman) Flinn of Carroll, Iowa.

Rob enjoyed spending his days on the golf course, fishing and being outdoors.

He was very active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion in Cameron.

He was employed with Orscheln and did pest control for many years with Mefford Pest Control and most recently with Gimson Pest Control. He also worked at Walmart for 10 years.

Robert is survived by his three children; and his grandchildren, Nicholas Flinn of Westminster, Colo., Tiffany Whitver of Milford, Iowa, Ryan Whitver of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Sgt. Cullin Flinn USMC of Camp Pendleton, Calif., Bayllie Flinn of Jefferson, Iowa, Laynne Flinn of Churdan, Kole Higgins ​of Scranton, Iowa, Kendra Higgins of Grand Junction, Iowa, and Brooklyn Bender of Carroll; great-grandchildren, Kasen of Aurora, Colo., Khloe of Scranton and Magnolia of Jefferson; brother, Jack (Perjo) Flinn of Tulsa, Okla.; a sister residing in Minnesota; many nieces and nephews; and his closest friends, Jeff Miles, Charlie Miles, Jimmy Gordon and Bill Gimson.

Robert was preceded in death by both of his parents; and his brother, James Flinn.
