If you need assistance with a project at your house, such as weatherization or building a ramp, the Dallas County Habitat for Humanity would like to talk with you.
There will be two Rock the Block neighborhood revitalization projects this September, one in Dallas Center Sept. 13-15 and the other in Perry Sept. 27-29.
Habitat for Humanity is accepting applications from persons who own the home they live in and who are within income guidelines. This includes families who are buying on contract, own their house with a mortgage or own with no mortgage left.
To qualify, your household income must be 60 percent or less than the median income in your community.
Rock the Block focuses on exterior maintenance and minor repairs, debris removal and improving accessibility. If you know people who wants to stay in their home but are having trouble maintaining it, please tell them about Rock the Block.
Homeowners selected for the Rock the Block repairs must agree to complete a two-hour financial class and provide six hours of volunteer service to Habitat for Humanity. This volunteer service will match the person’s physical abilities and skills.
Because Habitat for Humanity pays for the cost of materials up front, some homeowners will be asked to make payments to reimburse Habitat for this expense. During the application process, which includes assessment of the house, the Habitat staff will decide how much repayment, if any, will be required of the homeowner.
The labor for Rock the Block projects is not charged to the homeowner if they help and if enough volunteers step up. It takes many volunteers to do this work at low or no cost to the homeowners. Please consider signing up online on the Dallas County Habitat for Humanity website for a day of work in your community.
