Rose Marie (Tingwald) Burton, 91, of Perry passed away at Eden Acres on Friday, Dec. 31, 2021. She was born on Aug. 13, 1930, in Ogden, Iowa, the daughter of R. Henry and Marie (Cook) Tingwald.

Rose graduated in 1949 from Perry High School.

Upon graduation, she worked as a dental assistant for Dr. H. J. Spies in Boone.

On Feb. 11, 1951, she married Keith L. Burton at First United Church in Boone. After her marriage, they made their home in Perry, where she was a devoted wife and mother.

Rose always enjoyed “get togethers,” as she called them, with her high school classmates. She helped plan and organize them and was excited to go to their favorite place, Mars Dairy, thru the spring and summer months.

Rose was a real “trooper,” riding rear shotgun on afternoon trips on the Harley Davidson and being a co-pilot during Keith’s Piper Cub 150 days, when he had his pilot’s license.

She spent seven years being a snowbird at their place in Apache Junction, Arizona, until Keith’s passing in 2003.

Rose loved planting flowers and took pride in her roses. She made sure she watered them every day whether they needed it or not.

With Rose, family always came first.

She was a member of the Perry United Methodist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Keith; sisters, Martella Ely, Frances Hamman, Adele Carrell and Charlotte Wicks; and one brother, Granville Tingwald.

Survivors include her daughters, Brenda (Jerry) Swigert of Des Moines and Vicki (Bruce) Klein of Perry; son, Kerry (Robin) Burton of Paola, Kansas; grandchildren, Chad (Deborah) Swigert of Grimes, Megan (William) Morales of Aurora, Colorado and Emily Gillett of Oswatomie, Kansas; great-grandchildren, Parker Swigert of Des Moines and Isolde Swigert of Grimes; sister-in-law, Esther Toepher of Mt. Vernon; along with several nieces and nephews.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4 at the First United Methodist Church in Perry, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Cat Stokes provided words of comfort.

Casket bearers were Chad Swigert, Emily Gillett, Parker Swigert, Kirby Hammon, Isolde Swigert and Roger Wisecup. Honorary casket bearers were Megan Morales and Bill Williams. Dennis Morgan was the musician. Hymns were “How Great Thou Art,” “Just A Closer Walk With Thee” and “The Lord’s Prayer.” Interment took place at Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry.

A Special Thanks to the staff at Eden Acres and Dallas County Hospital for the excellent care she received. Thanks to Dr. Sohn and Dr. Ash for being there for her when she needed it the most. Memorials may be sent to Hastings Funeral Home, P.O. Box 204, Perry, IA 50220.
