Shirley Book, 67, of Perry passed away Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, at her home in Perry.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 16 at 11 a.m. at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Perry. Visitation will be Thursday, Dec. 15 from 4-7 p.m., with a Vigil service held at 6:15 p.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home in Perry. Burial will be at the Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry.

Shirley Jean Book was born Feb. 23, 1949, in Imperial, Neb., to Leroy Gene and Ada Margerette (North) Kulla.

She attended school in Carlisle, Iowa.

She was united in marriage to Lawrence Wayne Book at St. Ambrose Catholic Church on Aug. 4, 1979.

Shirley was a dedicated hard worker, Union Steward and advocate for labor rights. She worked at various manufacturing plants, cooked at various restaurants, owned three businesses in Panora and retired from Sunny Fresh, a Cargill company.

Shirley was a member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, adult coloring books, baking, fishing, swimming, listening to music and dancing.

She loved her family and always had an open door to everyone.

She instilled faith in God and taught catechism classes.

She was unforgettable and a very honest person. You never had to wonder where you stood with Shirley. She said what she thought and took care of her sisters and family.

She was preceded in death by her by her parents, Leroy and Marge Kulla.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Lawrence Book of Perry; children, Stacie (Bruce) Hayes-Timmons of Perry, David (Heather Moore) Crooks of Perry and Kellie (Tom) Flanery of Panora; grandchildren, Ashley, Chad, Grace, Conor, Jasmarie, Georgia, Dalton, Devon, Cori and Ray; nine great-grandchildren; siblings, Sharon Easter, Sheila (Mark) Nagel, Sherry (Steven) Porter, Sharlene (Alan) Staskal, David (Michelle) Kulla and Sheryl (Duane) Palmer; numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and nieces and nephews.
