Shirley Renfrow, 95, of Clive went home to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday, Feb. 6, 2022, at her home in Clive, Iowa.

A memorial service in her honor will be held Thursday, Feb. 10 at 11 a.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home and Cremation Care in Perry, with visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at the Brethren Cemetery in Panora, Iowa.

Shirley was born June 12, 1926, and raised in Yale, Iowa, the daughter of Dewey (Dude) and Edna (Clouse) LaHue. She was the second of four children, two sisters, Colleen and Norma, and a brother, Pierre.

Growing up, she and her two younger sisters, Norma and Colleen, sang in the Yale Church of Christ and also for funerals and weddings.

Shirley attended the Community Church of Christ in Des Moines in her later years.

After graduating from the Yale High School, Shirley went to work for Stott’s drug store in Yale for the next 20 years, filling prescriptions and serving up her best-loved sweet ice cream.

In 1947 she was united in marriage to Hershel E. Renfrow, who preceded her in death on July 22, 1975, after 25 years of marriage. To this union was born a daughter, Vicki.

After Hershel’s death, Shirley moved to Perry, where she worked at Don’s TV and Appliance, Clark’s Furniture Store and the Perry Service Center. These positions suited her well as she was always happy, outgoing and good with people as she definitely had a gift to gab.

As much as she loved working, her main love was her three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, but she also liked to read, do crossword puzzles (as she said it challenged the mind) and listen to gospel and country music.

Shirley was also a very good cook and baker. The family always looked forward to her dressing at the holidays as well as her cranberry salad and endless desserts. Her favorite with the grandkids was the pumpkin bread.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Colleen Travis and Norma Bosier McComber; and her brother, Pierre LaHue.

Survivors include her daughter, Vicki Larsen of West Des Moines; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials will be given to Wolfe Eye Clinic Foundation and may be left at the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.carrisfuneralhome.com.
