DES MOINES, Iowa — The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) was notified Sunday of six deaths from COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 118, and an additional 384 positive cases for a total of 5,476 positive cases, including 169 cases in Dallas County.
According to IDPH the additional six deaths were reported in the following counties:
Black Hawk County, 1 middle-age adult (41-60 years)
Clinton County, 1 elderly adult (80+ years)
Des Moines County, 1 middle-age adult (41-60 years)
Johnson County, 1 adult (21-40 years), 1 elderly adult (81+)
Linn County, 1 elderly adult (81+)

About 50% of all deaths in Iowa are associated with outbreaks in long-term care facilities. This statistic underscores that COVID-19 poses the most risk for older adults above the age of 60 with chronic health conditions, resulting in more severe illness and death.
