Stan Oviatt, 69, of rural Boone died at his home Tuesday, April 24, 2018.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 28 at 11 a.m. at the Squire Boone Cemetery south of Boone, with the Rev. Josh McFarland officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the Boone Veterans Council.

Friends may call at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at 1006 Sixth St., in Boone  Friday from 4-8 p.m., with the family present from 6-8 p.m.

Stan Andrew Oviatt was born in Boone, Iowa, Dec. 12, 1948, the son of Marion and Hazel (Miller) Oviatt.

He graduated from Woodward High School in Woodward in 1967.

In 1968 Stan enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War.

On Dec. 20, 1969, Stan married Sandra “Sandi” Wisecup at Waukee, Iowa.

Stan grain farmed in Marcy Township in Boone County. In earlier years, he also raised cattle.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, vegetable gardening, canning his produce and mushroom hunting.

Stan also enjoyed watching old westerns programs and movies on television and target shooting.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 717 in Granger.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

Stan is survived by a son, Shawn Oviatt, and wife, Melissa, of Boone; a daughter, Stacey Elam, and husband, Scott, of Marion; a sister, Susan Oviatt of Woodward; two grandchildren, Lindsey Sabelka and husband, Paul, of Marion and Breanna Elam of Marion; and a great-grandson, Jackson Sabelka of Marion; and several nieces and nephews.

In memory of Stan, memorials may be directed to the family.
