Grace Stewart of Perry graduated Friday from Advanced Individual Training (AIT) in the Iowa Army National Guard.

Stewart completed her initial entry training at U.S. Army Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. The 2018 Perry High School graduate will now return to Iowa to complete the transition into her unit with a patching ceremony.

Stewart was a track standout at PHS, and her conditioning paid off at AIT.

“Grace excelled in her fitness requirements at AIT by maxing her Army physical fitness test with 300 points,” said Sgt. Jana DeKoter of Perry, career counselor with the Iowa Army National Guard. “She will receive the Army Fitness Excellence Badge.”

Stewart’s family was excited to have her home.

“Congrats, Gracie!” said Danene Stewart of Perry, the graduate’s mother. “We are so very proud of you, our soldier!”
