Sue Hertz of Dallas Center

Cora Sue “Sue” Hertz, daughter of Harry Medicus Duncan and Mabel Ellen Ricketts Duncan, was born Sept. 9, 1938, in Agency, Mo., and passed away April 1, 2018 at her home in Dallas Center, Iowa, surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services were Sunday, April 8 at Hastings Funeral Home of Perry, with burial at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter.

Sue attended school in Galt, Mo., for most of her childhood. During her senior year of high school, her family moved to Des Moines, where she graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1956. She then completed one year of college at Grandview College.

On Aug. 8, 1959, Sue married Marvin Lee Hertz in Los Angeles, Calif. Marvin was serving in the U.S. Navy, and they began their married life living in Navy housing. They later settled in Des Moines and moved to Dallas Center in 1979.

Sue was a very loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family and her faith were the most important aspects of her life. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy and she cherished every moment spent with them.

Sue was a dedicated member of World Wide Church of God/United Church of God and treasured her church family.

Sue was a longtime volunteer for Broadlawns Hospital Guild, where she served as president for several years.

Over the years, Sue was an in-home childcare provider, and she lovingly looked after many children, including some with severe disabilities.

She enjoyed selling Tupperware and Sarah Coventry Jewelry and appreciated the many friends she made.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved daughter, Rebecca Sue Hertz; and brothers, Carl Richard Duncan and infant brother Frances Lee Duncan.

Her memory will be forever cherished by her husband of 58 years, Marvin Lee Hertz I of Dallas Center; son, Marvin Lee Hertz II of Des Moines; daughters, Regena Ellen (Scott) Jimenez of Dallas Center and Murrieta, Calif. and Rachele Denise (Mike) Kugel of Des Moines and Indianapolis, Ind.; her precious grandchildren, David A. Faux of Ames, Benyemin A. Zargarian of Clarinda, Joshua D. Hertz of Des Moines, Anthony O. Kugel of Kansas City, Mo., Christina R. Kugel of Ames, Angel M. Armagost of Des Moines and Robert N. Armagost of Des Moines; great-grandson, Justice M. Zargarian of Bondurant; brother, Joseph E. )Marie) Duncan of Valley Springs, Calif.; her precious little dog, JoJo Honeybear; other relatives and friends.
