The 2018 Woodward Friends and Neighbors Days opened Friday with a community supper, golf cart parade, pit ball tourney and family-friendly movie in the park. Saturday offered an even longer list of events — including a petting zoo, pie auction, the Little Miss Woodward pageant and a vehicle show — and featured what locals lining the streets say was Woodward’s best parade to date.
Veterans from Woodward American Legion Auxiliary Unit 211 and scouts from Woodward-Granger Boy Scout Troop 141 and Woodward-Granger Girl Scout Troops 1015 and 1158 led the march up Main Street, carrying the national colors.
They were followed by fire trucks, a marching group representing the U.S. Air Force and decked-out vehicles carrying representatives of 4-H of Dallas County, the Humane Society of Perry, Dallas County Democrats, Granger Nursing and Rehabilitation, Stone Bridge Church, Woodward-Granger FFA, Woodward Public Library and numerous other local businesses.
The Woodward-Granger High School Band set an upbeat tone, playing and waving as kids — and maybe even a few adults — scrambled for the candy and other treats thrown from passing trucks and floats.
Woodward Friends and Neighbors Days will conclude Saturday night with a beer garden, live music and a fireworks show scheduled for 30 minutes or more thanks to community support.
