Charges are pending Friday morning after a woman with a gun robbed the Medicap Pharmacy in Dallas Center about 7 a.m. and fled westward in a car on Iowa Highway 44.

The suspect abandoned the vehicle in the 25200 block of U.S. Highway 169 and fled on foot into some nearby woods, where she was taken into custody without incident by Dallas County Deputy Sheriffs about 7:40 a.m.

The Dallas County Sheriff’s office and Iowa State patrol responded to the reported armed robbery, and an investigation is ongoing at this hour.

According to radio traffic, a thin-built white woman in her 50s and dressed in black clothes and wearing sunglasses entered the drug store at 504 14th St. in Dallas Center and brandished a firearm. It is unknown at this time what goods the robber got away with, if any.

The armed robber then fled in a black Hyundai Sonata with tinted windows. Radio traffic indicated “a bag of pills” was found on the floorboard of the vehicle where it was abandoned in the driveway of the residence at 25289 N Ave.

The suspect fled across a field and into timber on the west side of U.S. Highway 169 and just north of the Dallas County Human Services Campus, the former county home, where she was taken into custody after a brief foot chase.

The suspect was taken to the Dallas County Jail, and the Dallas County EMS was paged in order to provide medical assistance.
