One juvenile male was arrested after law enforcement officers questioned people involved in a Monday morning melee on west Willis Avenue.

The Monday morning melee on west Willis Avenue resulted in charges against a 17-year-old boy, according to a statement issued Tuesday by the Perry Police Department.

Perry Police Department officers, responding to a reported assault shortly after 3 a.m. by an assailant who was possibly armed with a gun, encountered several people attempting to leave the scene of a party at 304 Willis Ave., including the juvenile assailant.

Investigation and interviews of witnesses revealed the juvenile assaulted three people at the party and reportedly threatened persons with a weapon. No weapon was found at the time of the arrest, police said, but a witness later lead officers to the weapon.

The unidentified juvenile was charged with three counts of aggravated assault and one count each of carrying weapons and possession of alcohol under legal age. The juvenile was transported and detained in a juvenile detention facility, according to police.

The three aggravated assault charges carry a maximum cumulative sentence of six years in prison and $18,750 in fines, and the weapons charge carries a maximum sentence of two years in prison and a $6,250 fine. The possession of alcohol misdemeanor carries a maximum $200 fine.

The assault victims were treated at Dallas county Hospital for minor injuries and released.

During the course of the investigation, officers discovered that one of the adults at the party, Stephanie Silva, 21, of Perry, was wanted on a Polk County Warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of OWI.

Silva was detained by the Perry Police Department until she was picked up by Polk County Deputies and transported to the Polk County Jail.

  1. Thanks, John! We feel we are, indeed, out front of breaking news. We KNOW we lead the way for anything happening after 5 p.m. or on a weekend — just review any given two-week period in the past year or so and see for yourself. And, yes, Christine, our police do a fine job, and a heck of a lot more than shooing bats out of kitchens and chasing loose pets.
