A Texas man was convicted Thursday of harassing a Dexter woman with a barrage of phone calls, texts and emails over the course of six months.

Brandon Rayce Edwards, 38, of Canyon Lake, Texas, was convicted of second-degree harassment Thursday in Dallas County District Court. He was originally charged in August with stalking, but a plea agreement was reached with the Dallas County Attorney’s office.

The incident began April 10, 2022, when the victim reported “harassment via communication by telephone and email” to the Dallas County Sheriff’s office.

A warrant for Edwards’ arrest for harassment was ordered April 18 after he “was told twice by Dallas County Deputies to stop communications with the victim,” but he disregarded the direction of law enforcement and “sent another email minutes after being told by a Deputy to stop,” according to court records.

Edwards “nonstop called, messaged and emailed the victim,” who attempted to block all the numbers associated with Edwards, but he used “spoofed and private numbers to constantly harass and annoy her,” according to court records.

Edwards was served a no-contact order by the Comal County Sheriff’s office in Texas on June 30, 2022. He “sent 61 emails in just August alone” and continued to try to make “contact with the victim by email and blocked/spoofed phone calls” that came “at different times in the day and night,” according to court records.

Edwards “attempted to gather information on the victim’s whereabouts, current relationships and future business endeavors through the victim’s friends and family through social media with bribes,” according to court records.

The victim told the deputies that she “feels unsettled, mentally exhausted and in fear of her safety” as a result of Edwards’ ongoing harassment.

The victim told the deputies she has “experienced” Edwards’ “violent tendencies in the past, which makes it difficult going about her life knowing he keeps gathering more and more information about her,” according to court records.

Edwards was sentenced to one year probation and assessed a civil penalty of $430 and court costs. The no-contact order was extended until 2027.
