Services for Thomas Lee Hagar were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16 at Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson, with visitation starting at 11 a.m. until time of service.

Rev. John Elkin of Lighthouse Ministries in Fort Dodge provided words of comfort. Recorded music selected was “H.O.L.Y.,” “Follow Me” and “Drive.” Following the service, a luncheon was served at the Elk’s Lodge in Jefferson.

Thomas Lee Hagar, son of Lawrence D. Hagar and Joyce J. Pageler Hagar, was born Jan. 10, 1966, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, and died Jan. 9, 2017, in a tragic auto accident on U.S. Highway 30 in Greene County, Iowa.

Thomas’s mother died when he was only 2 years old, and he then lived with his grandparents.

Thomas graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1985 and continued his education in California.

On Sept. 20, 1990, he married Keri Cook, and they were blessed with three children, Nicole, Nicholas and Nolan.

They made their home in Fort Dodge, where Thomas owned Tool Time Construction.

He was very creative and a talented man with all his work with wood. Tom did custom cabinetry as well as many other projects. His family remembers the beautiful chests and even a rocking horse he crafted.

On July 11, 2011, Thomas and Lesa Lllewellyn were united in marriage.

They made Jefferson their home. They owned and operated Thomas Hagar Construction LLC.

His work took him to many areas in the state.

Tom had a passion for cooking and was an excellent chef. He especially enjoyed all types of kitchen gadgets, and he would be sure his loved ones each had one.

Tom was a people person, never knowing a stranger. He was a great story teller.

Tom was always active. He was an avid NASCAR fan, with Kasey Kahne his favorite driver. Tom enjoyed the stock car races, Monster Truck performances and camping.

Tom and Lesa enjoyed many trips together and recently returned from a cruise. Get togethers with Lesa’s family, with cooking competitions, were special to Tom.

He was very happy for his time spent with his grandson, Kayden, and looked forward to the birth of Nicole and Brandon’s baby.

Thomas was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce; his father, Lawrence; and his mother-in-law, Mary Louise Riley.

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Lesa of Jefferson; children, Nicole (Brandon) Meyers of Urbandale, Nicholas Cook and Nolan (Alyssa) Cook, all of Fort Dodge, and Sean Pollard of Jefferson; grandson, Kayden Cook; step-mother, Linda Hagar of Arizona; father-in-law, James Llewellyn of Ames; sister-in-law, Michele (Mark) Thomas of Zearing; brother-in-law, Jamie (Amy) Llewellyn of Waukee; brothers, Jim Hagar of Arizona and Mark Hagar and Donald Hagar of Ft. Dodge; sisters, Laurie Alexander-Povey and Cheryl Reuter of California; many nieces and nephews; other relatives; and many friends.
