Three juvenile runaways from the Woodward Academy were taken into custody about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of U.S. Highway 169 and Iowa Highway 141.

The males escaped from the Woodward Academy campus about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and were believed to be traveling in a northwest direction.

The Dallas County Sheriff’s office received a report about 12:15 p.m. of three white males fitting the description of the runaways and walking northward along U.S. Highway 169 about one-tenth of a mile north of the gas station at the Four Corners.

The Dallas County Sheriff’s office responded as well as staff employees of Sequel Youth Services, the for-profit company that operates the Woodward Academy.

  1. They stuck together? Were they scared of the dark? The number one rule of prison escape is to split up! Those guys likely knew their “excursion” was a bust once they could not steal a staff car but decided to hoof it and see if someone would pick them up. How many cars did these kids walk by during their nighttime hike that they did not steal while hoping someone “cool” would stop, pick them up and help them? Or did they get someone to pick them up and because they were going to Adel instead of East they asked to be dropped off, and they were going to hitch a ride at midnight with the next cool dude that might get them closer to DM? I’m sorry but this was not “The Great Escape”
