Jamie Renee Fox, right, sings while she sews Tuesday afternoon as her sister, Becca Powers of Des Moines, center, and nephew, Will Lockey of Ankeny, listen in.

Singing seamstress Jamie Renee Fox will soon be performing two shows every Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. in the Playground Lounge at 1008 26th St. in Perry.

Fox, who said she performed for many years in Las Vegas, specializes in torch songs from the 1940s through the 1970s and beyond. In a brief interview Tuesday, she sang snatches from Jo Stafford’s 1952 version of “You Belong to Me,” Patsy Cline’s immortal 1961 anthem, “I Fall to Pieces,” and Brenda Lee’s 1963 classic, “The End of the World.”

As the proprietor of Little C Bargain at 1010 26th St., Fox exercises her talents on the distaff side, sewing a variety of goods that are slowly stocking the shelves of the former New Hope Village.

Fox is sharing the labors of opening the Playground Lounge with Albert Dinwiddie. She said the lounge will serve beer, wine, champagne and mimosa along with light dining fair, such as onion rings and hot wings.

They said they hope to open as soon as next week.
