WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Dallas County Republicans enjoyed some face time with a few of their national and local elected officeholders Thursday night at the third annual Dallas County GOP fundraiser, held at the West Des Moines Marriott and titled, Party Like a Patriot.

Iowa wrestling legend Dan Gable and U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) headlined the event, with the speaker’s card also including Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds, Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate, Iowa GOP Chairman Jeff Kaufmann and Dallas County GOP Co-Chairs Ron Forsell and Kelley Koch.

A VIP reception preceded the dinner program, with donors rubbing elbows with fellow followers of former President Donald Trump, including Jordan, Reynolds and many Dallas County elected officials.

A somber moment was observed at the beginning of the program as attention was drawn to a table with 13 empty place settings chairs, each place symbolizing a U.S. military servicemember killed during this week’s U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan.

“Dallas County’s growth will be a rising star for Iowa’s GOP,” said Kaufmann. “We’re excited for the energy coming out of this bustling Iowa county.”

Dallas County’s population increased by 50% between the 2010 and 2020 U.S. Census.

Forsell said the fundraiser “sparks a concerted effort to bring our new residents under the GOP tent,” including Perry’s Latino voters.

“We’re hitting the ground running,” said Koch. “Dallas County has an exciting opportunity as candidates and press focus on our county in the upcoming elections.”

Republican hopefuls for their party’s 2024 presidential nomination are already testing the waters ahead of the Iowa caucuses. Texas Sen. Ted Crus, who won the 2016 Republican caucus, visited Iowa last week for a fundraiser.

  1. The GOP is poisonous. They lie as easily as breathing, and criminal behavior appears mandatory for party membership, while intelligence is optional, if not disdained. With years of refinement, the GOP has been distilled to the essence of mendacity and evil intent. They yammer on about public service whenever election time rolls around, but it is clearly evident that they are only interested in keeping their comfortable seat on the gravy train. Don’t invite them into our community, and make sure to count your silverware and check for your wallet when they leave.

  2. I bet not a word was spoken about January 6, when Capitol police officers were attacked by many loyal Republicans. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) is trying his best to block giving anything to the House committee investigating January 6, 2021. You wonder what he his to hide. People have to understand the Republican party is only a name. The people who run this party are in the party of Trump.
