A student at the Adel-De Soto-Minburn Middle School was arrested after making a threat Thursday afternoon by the Adel Police Department.

The Adel Police Department has arrested a 14-year-old male from the Adel-De Soto-Minburn Middle School after he made threats deemed “terroristic in nature,” according to a department statement released Friday.

Adel Police Department Chief Gordy Shepherd said the child’s threats “were serious enough to warrant the arrest of the individual.”

In a message sent to parents Thursday afternoon, ADM Superintendent Greg Dufoe said, “Late in the school day today, our middle school administrators became aware of a possible threat to the middle school made by a student.”

Dufoe did not specify the nature of the student’s threat, and Shepherd was similarly indefinite in his statement.

According to the Iowa Department of Education, 406 students attend the ADM Middle School. The middle school dismissed at 1 p.m. Thursday for the beginning of spring break, which lasts through March 16.
