The boil order in Minburn was lifted Friday, according to a city official.

Customers of the Minburn Water Department are under a temporary boil advisory following a water main break Monday night that left residences west of U.S. Highway 169 without water.

Minburn City Clerk Chris Fitch said the boil advisory will last until the city’s water system tests free of contaminants.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources advised residents of Minburn to boil water used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth or preparing food. Bottled water may also be used until testing shows the water is safe to drink.

Residents should bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute and let it cool before using. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water, the DNR said. Tap water may be used for bathing and similar purposes.

Residents may also use bottled water until the safety of the city’s water supply is verified.

Two sets of water samples, taken 24 hours apart, will be tested to determine whether the water is safe and when the advisory can be lifted, the DNR said.

“Once we have two samples come back clear, we can lift the advisory,” Fitch said. “We hope to be able to lift it sometime tomorrow.”
