A woman was killed and two others were seriously injured when their vehicle left the roadway shortly after midnight Saturday on Iowa Highway 210 at Main Street in Woodward.

According to a statement released Sunday morning by the Boone County Sheriff’s office, Sheryl Marie Kock of Johnston died when the vehicle she was a passenger in struck a tree after running the stop sign at the T intersection near the entrance to the Woodward Resource Center.

Two other people in the Chevrolet Monte Carlo, Rebecca Louise Lulof of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Debora Anne West of Des Moines, were injured in the accident and transported by ambulance.

“My daughter was the first one on the scene of the accident and was trying to help the ladies,” said a Woodward woman who asked that her name not be used. “They hit the trees, and the road sign went into the front window of the car and was keeping them from getting out right away.”

The Woodward woman said the three victims were sisters, but law enforcement has not confirmed the accuracy of the Woodward woman’s statement.

“The Boone County Sheriff’s office is still investigating and charges are pending,” the sheriff’s statement said.

The Iowa State Patrol, Dallas County Sheriff’s office, Woodward First Responders, Woodward Volunteer Fire Department, Boone County EMS and Dallas County EMS also responded.
