BOONE, Iowa — Two suspects have been arrested in connection with a firearms incident Thursday afternoon in Boone.

No other suspects remain at large, according a statement issued about 10 p.m. Thursday by the Boone Police Department.

The second arrest comes at the end of a 10-hour manhunt for a shooter first reported to be threatening another male with a gun at 1:11 p.m. in the area of 13th and Carroll streets in Boone.

Boone Police and Boone County Sheriff’s Deputies responded and found “a male victim who had received a single, non-threatening gunshot wound,” according to the police statement.

According to police, the suspect gunman fled the scene on foot and was not apprehended, contrary to first reports. Another suspect, described in reports as the driver of the suspects’ vehicle, was apprehended shortly after the shooting, but the gunman remained at large.

The victim is reportedly an 18-year-old man. Police said he was given immediate medical aid. An earlier report said the gunshot victim was lifeflighted to an area hospital, but police have not confirmed this report.

Area schools were locked down during the active-shooter episode, and a police officer or deputy sheriff was assigned to each school as a safety precaution until students were released to parents.

Agents from the Iowa Department of Public Safety’s Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation  are assisting in the ongoing investigation. The police said no additional information would be released at this time.
