Two children died and five were injured in the SUV crash west of Dawson Tuesday morning, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
Iowa State Patrol Sgt. Alex Dinkla said a minor was driving the 2014 Toyota Sienna with six minor passengers when the vehicle left the granular-surface roadway and struck a field entrance.
The accident occurred about 11:30 a.m. in the 12100 block of Beaumont Place just north of Greenbrier Creek, Dinkla said.
Law enforcement radio traffic following the crash indicated at least three of the victims were found unconscious at the scene.
Two life flight helicopters responded to the mishap as well as multiple public safety agencies. Two victims were transported by air ambulance, and at least one was transported by Dallas County EMS to Blank Hospital in Des Moines.
Dinkla said the names of the victims will be withheld until families are notified.
The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State patrol.
