Wilmer Dale Shelley was born May 23, 1926, in Booneville, Iowa. He died Dec. 1, 2018, at Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center, Iowa, at the age of 92 years, six months, eight days.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5 at Iles-Brandt Chapel in Dallas Center, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Union Cemetery near Guthrie Center.
Dale spent most of his life in Dallas County.
On Aug. 15, 1948, he was united in marriage to Wynona Anderson, and to this union were born five children.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; four sisters; his wife of 62 years, Wynona; and two children who died the day they were born.
He is survived by his children, Ron (Marlene) Shelley, Dennis (Linda) Shelley and Vickie (Gary) Ogren; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Jensen, Kevin (Jody) Shelley, Katie French, Eric (Shannon) Shelley, Alicia (David) Murphy, Ryan Ogren and Matt Henrichs; 11 great-grandchildren, Christopher and Jeremy Wilson, Isaac Katnik, Tina Nicholes, Brooke and Hollywood Grabil, Zach and Zander Shelley and Jaden, Bryce and Izabella Murphy; and four sisters, Erma Aswegan, Wilma Horman, Ruth Cameron and Esther Kelly.
Dale was very active in his church for more than 50 years. He loved farming, gardening, John Deere tractors and Model Ts.
Dale missed his wife of 62 years, Wynona, who passed in 2010.
He loved his grandchildren and adored his great-grandchildren. Dale spent many hours taking them on rides in the Model T and John Deere tractor. He also enjoyed pushing them on the tractor tire swing he built for them and pulling them around in the wagon behind the lawn mower.
