W-G harriers run in WCC meet

PANORA — Thursday’s West Central Conference cross country meet at the Panora Par 3 Golf Course saw harriers running for Woodward-Granger for the first time. The Hawk girls were seventh in an eight-team field, with the W-G boys ninth in their 10-team group.

Ninth-ranked Panorama edged seventh-rated AC/GC, 59-60, for the girls team title. West Central Valley (106) was third and Earlham (107) fourth, with Madrid (117), Ogden (128), W-G (130) and Van Meter (185) completing the girls standing, with No. 4 AC/GC (38), No. 5 Panorama (92), Ogden (104), Des Moines Christian (115), Earlham (118), WCV (134), Woodward Academy (149), Madrid (159), W-G (264) and Van Meter (272) the final standings for the boys.

Kate Crawford and Emma Swanson of AC/GC, ranked 10th and 15th, respectively, placed 1-2 in 20 minutes, 43.87 seconds and 20:59.6, respectively, with 18th-rated Eva Fish of Earlham third in 21:10.84 in the girls race.

Josie Noland (16th, 23:39.68), Kaitlyn Peters (21st, 23:59.26), Natalie Helbling (24th, 24:11.77), Regan Kaufman (27th, 24:21.47) and Savannah David (42nd, 25:57.1) scored for the Hawk girls, with Natalie Faultonson (30:25.19) also running.

Ogden’s Andrew Stumbo (ranked second), DMC’s Tyler Ketchum (rated 26th) and AC/GC’s Cale Billheimer finished 1-2-3 in the boys event in 16:58.52, 17:12.33 and 17:19.92, respectively.

Chandler Cavanaugh (19:52.91), Cody Garland (20:02.51), Alex Bice (20:39.32), Hunter Pierce (20:44.91) and Luke Brittain (21:22.09) placed 43-45-56-58-62 to score for the W-G boys. Kaya Bowlsby (21:41.21) and Andrew Anderson (24:52.95) also ran but did not have their placings used for the team total.

Lucas Hansen (18:35.35) was the lone boy to run for the Hawks in the two-mile middle school race, while Makenzie Dresback (16:43.51), Katie Grell (16:50.38), Sydney Grell (17:06.68) and Kaitlyn Smith (17:59.83) competed for the W-G girls.
