Perry residents with opinions about the use of fireworks around town during this year’s Independence Day holiday and the effectiveness of the city’s fireworks ordinance are invited to share their opinions with the Perry City Council Monday, July 20 at 6 p.m. in the Towncraft Building at 1124 Willis Ave.
Council members and the Perry City Hall administration will discuss the calls and comments they received on the recent firework activity over the holiday, including a review of written comments to the council.
At the July 13 special meeting of the Perry City Council, council member Vicki Klein was the first to bring up the numerous complaints she received about the widespread non-compliance with the fireworks ordinance this year, and the other council members confirmed their similar experience.
Klein recommended setting aside a specific time during a council meeting for residents to come and voice their thoughts on the matter. Perry Police Chief Eric Vaughn will also report on his department’s management of the holiday.
Perry Mayor John Andorf also advised the council July 13 to make sure to advise residents to contact their state senators and representatives with their concerns because the state regulates the sales and restrictions on fireworks. State Sen. Jake Chapman (R-Adel) led the charge for fireworks legalization in June 2017.
