A Waukee man was arrested on a Dallas County warrant Wednesday in connection with a New Year’s Eve incident in which he allegedly strangled his girlfriend.

Tanner Allen Rupe, 34, of 241 S.E. Jennifer Dr., Waukee, was charged with domestic abuse assault-impeding air/blood flow causing bodily injury.

The incident began about 11:45 p.m. Dec. 31 in the 200 block of S.E. Jennifer Drive in Waukee, where officers of the Waukee Police Department responded to a report of a domestic disturbance.

The officers made contact with the victim, who said Rupe “slammed her into a wall and had strangled her with her shirt,” according to court records.

“Bruising was observed” on the victim’s shoulders and neck, according to court records, as well as “scratch marks, tiny red spots, red linear marks and bruising, raspy voice, difficulty swallowing, swelling in her neck and light headedness as a result of the strangulation.”

The shirt used in the alleged strangulation was recovered and placed into evidence, according to court records.

Rupe left the residence before police arrived. An arrest warrant was ordered Jan. 4 in Dallas County District Court and served Wednesday.

Rupe is held in the Dallas County Jail of a $5,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Feb. 1 in Dallas County District Court.
