Wesley Nicholas Sherman, 86, of Berkley, Iowa, passed away Friday, March 16, 2018, at his home.

Wesley’s wishes were to be cremated. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

Wesley Nicholas Sherman was born Dec. 29, 1931.

Following his education, he served in the Nebraska National Guard for 3.5 years and then served another four years in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was stationed in Okinawa, where he worked as an airplane mechanic.

On Sept. 28, 1957, Wesley was united in marriage to Wanda Thompson at the Christian Church in Hampton, Iowa.

The couple made their home in Hampton until moving to Perry in 1959.

In 1967 they moved to Berkley, where the couple purchased their first home.

Wesley loved bowling, riding his trike, fishing, skating and riding horses and camping.

Mostly he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. He also loved attending pageants with his granddaughters, Pati and Sami.

Survivors include his children, Marilyn (Richard) Bryant of Perry, Mike Sherman of Perry,  Marsha Shaffer of Woodward and Missy (Chris) Higgins of Jefferson; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren, with one due to arrive in October; three brothers, Clarence (Belinda) Morman Jr. of Dawson, John (Linda) Morman of Perry and Dwayne (Frances) Morman of Perry.

He was preceded in death by his parents;wife, Wanda Sherman, in 2004; daughter, Melinda Sherman, in 1978; grandson, Brandon Defenbaugh, in 1995; granddaughter, Heather Shaffer; two sisters, Tootie Norem and Shirley Hood; and one brother, Art Morman.

Memorials in care of the family may be directed to St. Jude Hospital.
