The National Weather Service (NWS) office in Des Moines has issued a winter storm warning in effect from 9 p.m. Tuesday until noon Wednesday for the Perry area and all of central Iowa.

Total snow accumulations of 6 to 9 inches are forecast, with moderate to heavy snow possible and intense snowfall rates at times.

Beginning Tuesday evening, snow will develop over southwestern Iowa, and move northeast through the late evening and overnight hours. The snow will fall heavily at times
through the night before gradually tapering off and moving out Wednesday afternoon. Although winds will remain fairly light, visibility will be significantly reduced during periods of intense snowfall and road conditions will rapidly deteriorate tonight.

The hazardous road conditions could make the Tuesday night and Wednesday morning commutes difficult for motorists. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

The latest road conditions can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.

The winter storm watch affects Dallas County and the Iowa counties of Sac, Calhoun, Crawford, Carroll, Greene, Boone, Story, Guthrie, Polk, Jasper, Poweshiek,Madison, Warren, Marion, Mahaska, Lucas, Monroe and Wapello.
