Woodward Academy runaway caught after two-hour spree

Authorities located a runaway from the Woodward Academy about 3:45 a.m. Saturday who was reported missing from the campus about 1:30 a.m.

The youth was located in the vicinity of Iowa Highway 141 and T Avenue near the Moran curve, according to authorities.

The Woodward Police Department, Woodward Volunteer Fire Department and Dallas County Sheriff’s office assisted the Woodward Academy in the search.

Sequel Youth and Family Services, which owns Woodward Academy, had a 16-year-old boy die May 1 of cardiac arrest in its Kalamazoo, Michigan, academy after the boy threw a sandwich at another resident, and several staff members of the residential treatment facility restrained him. The boy’s family is suing the for-profit company for $100 million.
