The Woodward-Granger High School was one of 17 schools statewide to win the 2023 Carrie Chapman Catt Award, which goes to schools that registers at least 90% of eligible students to vote.

This was W-G’s third consecutive winning of the annual award.

Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate visited the school Thursday morning and presented the Carrie Chapman Catt trophy to Brad Kunecke, Woodward-Granger High School social studies teacher.

Rep. Dan Gehlbach of Waukee, who represents district 46 in the Iowa House of Representatives, was also on hand to congratulate Kunecke and the whole school.

Woodward-Granger High School was one of only eight schools in Iowa that registered 100% of the graduating class to vote this year, Pate said, who also visited Norwalk High School, Ballard High School and West Marshall High School Thursday.

The Carrie Chapman Catt Award is named after the famous Iowan who was instrumental in securing passage of the 19th Amendment, granting women access to the ballot box more than 100 years ago.
